Highlights of the Celebration of Excellence - October 25, 2015

The Waukesha Education Foundation's 2015 Celebration of Excellence was held at West High School on October 25. This annual event honors our Partners in Education and grant recipients.  Click here for video.

Spring City Jazz, featuring former Waukesha Mayor and WEF Board Member Paul Vrakas on clarinet, James Gerard on bass, and Gary Meisner on piano, provided a festive atmosphere for greeting community members, students and staff. Grant displays, showcased by both staff and students gave all attending the opportunity to see their WEF donations in action. Projects ranging from math, technology, literacy, music, photography, physical education, financial literacy and an entrepreneurial greeting card company demonstrated the excitement of the enrichment opportunities funded by the WEF.

The Cadets of Waukesha West Drumline opened the formal program with pizzazz! Vintage Mix Quartet quadruplets Ian, Kelsey, Anika and Julia Shoppach, performed a memorable rendition of our National Anthem. The Shoppach quadruplets are students at Waukesha West.

Former Waukesha County Executive Dan Vrakas served as our Master of Ceremonies, introducing our Partners in Education and sharing the inspirational contributions of these award recipients. Pat Buckley and the Waukesha Noon Rotary received the Community Partner in Education Award for their Rotary-Student Speaker Leadership Program, and Mortenson Construction was recognized as the Corporate Partner in Education. The Lifetime Excellence in Education Award was presented to retired Success and Achievement to Independent Living (SAIL) Transition Academy teacher Mark Bailey and posthumously to former technology leader Kristine Diener. Kris's sisters, Julie Niederehe and Beth Diener, accepted her award. Kathy Runte, WEF Chair, announced that a Technology Fund within the WEF has been renamed the Kristine K. Diener Technology Fund as an enduring recognition.

Grant recipients Leah Wanner, Brittany Nimmer, Aaron O'Connell and Greta Voit shared how their projects, funded by the WEF, have impacted both student learning and their teaching. The Waukesha Education Foundation, through generous financial support of our community and school district employees, is pleased to be able to fund the innovative ideas of our talented staff.
